Pulling bearing race off hubs?

Peter's technique can also be done with a simple hammer and chisel.
Now that I have a press, the bearing splitter suggested by Ron is optimum 
for me.
One other thought though. I don't know how true this is but last time I did 
a track day one of the instructor told me it was quite common for VW front 
hubs to fail in a racing environment.
Autocross, with all the violent directional changes, sticky tires and the 
amount of power that you have should be as hard on the hubs as anything!
