Windshield seal replacement MKII

If the seal is not deformed and still reasonably flexible and not damaged
during removal or reinstallation then there is no reason not to reuse it.
The one on my 84 is about 15 years old. I also don't use any kind of sealant
when installing a windshield in a Scirocco and have had no leaks if the
windshield is seated correctly.
New ones aren't cheap but can be gotten at www.impexfap.com or perhaps
www.germanautoparts.com for a semi-reasonable price.
