So just in case you figured I'd died. Here's what I've been dealing with on
my MkI:
Rust
Water Leaks
Electrical gremlins

Anybody ever hear of such a thing?

Rust: Yeah, I'm ashamed to say it, but I found some. Klaus is an incredible
car, so any rust gets dealt with swiftly. This was under the hatch seal
rubber, and some surface stuff under the bumper, and the leaks were there
too, hopefully I got them at the same time. But POR 15 seems to be holding
the stuff I did last year, so this year's crop got done with it too.

Leaks: In the back hatch, needing attention after the torrential rain we
had on the weekend. On a positive note, the front windshield which had
leaked badly last year seems to still be watertight.

Electrical gremlins: Still on a mission to have an auxilliary air valve
that closes, I'd replaced the valve after testing revealed 12V to the lug,
but it seems to not be constant, so I tore into the wiring, and replaced it
back to the fuse box, for the AAV and WUR. Get looking at your wires, and I
guarantee you'll find more ickiness than you ever thought possible, I keep
finding cracks in the wires under the boots on the connectors. So fight the
good fight people. 
Anyway, the damned valve still doesn't close, I need to go back further I
guess, the patch wire from the relay is the next victim (It's getting a
mite toasty), then maybe a new fused power line from the battery. I'm just
not putting up with this shit any more. 8Vs are easy my ass. 

Anyway, after that? Oh, the following devices decided not to work: horn,
blower fan, rear defogger, tach light, speedometer - nothing major. I
always hope that there is one common wire/fuse that's the offender, but I'm
betting not. I knew what I signed on for, no worries.
