air induction questions

> 1) wouldn't having a funnel (for lack of a better term) that forces air
into the box as one is driving ont he road have a negative effect?
essentially too much air? is the extra pressure vented off somewhere or
negligable so that it doesn't matter?

nope. you would have to apply less throttle for a given power output. at
full throttle, you would get slightly more power. the air flow sensor plate
deflects with mass flow rate of air, so slightly raising the pressure (and
density) of the incoming air will not cause any sort of fuel mixture issues.
side note: some audis had cis on a turbo setup, basically pressurizing the
entire air box with boost pressure (obviously a beefier box for that setup
though).

> 2) is there a good location to mount said funnel on a scirocco w/o a
chin spoiler? it would be on a daily drivers with all headlights still
available.

some have had it behind part of the grille, taking some of that air that
would have gone to the radiator. you lose some effect though, as the grille
deflects the laminar flow of the air that would have helped with causing
some forced induction effect.

> 3) how does one go about keep the moisture out of the system on a rainy
or snowy day?

moisture is not a bad thing for induction air - so long as its not so much
as to be 'running water', thats all. rain = ok.
