Hi again campers,

One day I was driving down the Highway and the car started to cut out or
buck.  I managed to make it home but now my 85 8v starts and runs for
about 2 seconds but won't idle.  Squirting starting fluid into the
throttle body helps it stay going for a while so I'm thinking it's a
fuel issue. Here's what I've checked: -I can't find any vacuum leaks
-The fuel pump doesn't hum when I first turn on the key but does while
it's running and for a second after it dies so I guess that checks out
-It's got gas in the tank -I've changed the fuel filter -The plate in
the fuel distributor moves freely and appears on center.

I had taken it to a place to fix the, at the time, non-idling car. 
(Here's a tip, DO NOT take your water cooled VW to V-dub Folks in
Irving, Tx). They had he car for 3weeks and only got it to idle somewhat
after a full tune up and 'ultrasonic injector cleaning'.  They strongly
suggested that I buy the weber carb kit and swap out the CIS injection
which sounds fun but is kind of expensive...I suspected they really
wanted me to do that b/c they didn't have a clue how to troubleshoot CIS
systems.

I'm at the point where I'm going to have to take it to the VW dealership
and spend the really big bucks if, for no other reason, to get the
problem diagnosed properly and I wanted to know if the list had any
suggestions before I gave up my kids college fund for an 19 yr old car
(because I would in a heartbeat, you know).

Thoughts/suggestions are welcome :-)
