Would an 86 Scirocco 8v have a hydro head?

Ok, can get one of these pretty cheap to replace the 1.7 in my mk1
scirocco, but I hate hydro heads...I would rather go with the old familiar
JH solid lifter...any tips on how to tell (other than the sticker on the
valve cover which usually goes bye-bye
