ANOTHER PROBLEM - Can't put head on on (arp studs)

I have the ARP headstuds in the block.  I attempted to slide the head
down the studs.  Initially it got bound up at the top but then I started
dropping it evenly and it was fine.  About an inch from the block the
head stopped sliding down.  This is about the point where the studs are
flush with the head at the top where the nuts would thread on.  I cannot
get it to go further down.

I did try to loosen the studs in hopes that they would have some play to
them so I could work the head down further but I only seemed to drive
the threads into the head making the head stuck in both directions.

Seriously, what the hell is going on here?  My only guess is the head is
really warped, but my rocco never blew any headgaskets while it was on
the road...
