Check this out.  I saw it on "Rides" on TLC.  Racing great, Don Millen, 
is developing it for the military.  It's got an oil based fluid for 
damping that is filled with tiny metallic particles that harden 
instantly when electromagnetic force is applied.  You would have to see 
the show to really get how it works.  I think it is like the 7th or 8th 
episode of season one.  It's on DVD now.  Definitly a DVD worth 
renting!
