Bogus Notification on email...

Is it possible that this shit is happening because a few of us (none named 
thank God), have fallen for it, and then since the unnamed parties downloaded 
something, this clued-in the bastard in question?  Is it possible that he is 
doing this directly, and not an automated bot of some sort?
