source for headliner material?

Yea, I've been told http://www.vwupholstery.com would have it, but it
doesn't look like they do (I haven't bothered to call or anything)

You might also try local upholstery shops.  I plan to get opinions on
local places and have one do it custom.  Is the problem just that you're
looking for VW specific material?  Cause especially if you're just
looking for basic black and white, you shouldn't have a problem getting
it anywhere.
