Insurance issues

There is also something called 'Tuner Insurance' too. It's for cars that aren't in the collectible catagory but are heavily modified and such. I forget what companies offer it but I would imagine typing tuner insurance or something like that in google would come up with some useful links.

Since insurance (or lack of adequate insurance) is a topic that often
comes up here, I was wondering if anyone has tried to obtain
"collector car" insurance. What I've learned so far is that the car
cannot be your DD and you need a regularly insured DD for each member
of your household with a DL. That's common to all of the companies
that offer it from what I've learned.

Some have mileage restrictions, most won't insure you if you're under
25 or have excess points and the car has to be 20 or 25 years old,
depending on company and state. Good thing is "agreed value"
provision - you determine the cars worth and pay accordingly. It can
get better if you have multiple collector cars as some charge PL/PD on
only the first one.

Anyway, there are too many variables by company and state to go into
here and it will come down to dealing with an underwriter on an
individual basis. Just wondering if anyone has tried to insure that
way.
