Where were Sciroccos sold?

       I had never heard of the Scirocco or Corrado until I moved to 
Germany.  I grew up in Florida and lived in North Carolina for a while. 
  I don't think they were sold in the SE US.  I want to find a decent 
rust free 8v to convert to 1.8t when I return from overseas.  Does 
anybody know where they are most plentiful?  Of course it doesn't need 
to run, just a good straight bodyand decent int.  I will be on the 
lookout starting about Oct. 05.  I know that is over a year from now, 
but when I get back I don't want to waste too much time looking in the 
wrong places.  I will HATE to part with my '89 Scala.  US doesn't like 
Euro cars on the road.
