Parts car might be an Wolfsburg

Patrick, that (also according to scirocco.org) is one of the highest
fifth gears shown. It is the same as the 4k with this exception.

The individual in our local club that was looking over the car does a
lot of SCCA racing where everything is checked and scrutinized. He said
(again in his opinion) that the 83 Wolfsburg chassis is the one of
choice because of the 1.8l, the 2H and the fact that it weighs less than
the 84 1/2 and above. He said that when the floor plan changed in mid
84 it added 150 lbs. I found that very interesting because part of the
change incorporated the space (and weight) saver spare. Was the space
saver spare a federal requirement? I think my alloy spare weighs less
than my steel space saver spare too.

The transmission in this car is a 2H. Still not sure if it confirms
anything regarding the Wolfsburg or the differences/advantages of this
particular transmission.

I had some people over today from our local VW club* picking at the
bones of the donor Passat before it took its final ride and one guy is
looking at my 'parts' Scirocco. I started describing it to him; 83,
leather seats, mono wiper. and from about 200 feet away he says, "That's
a Wolfsburg". He climbs under and confirms that it is a Wolfsburg by
the transmission code. Is there a way to check by the VIN? Not that it
would really change its status, it is more of a curiosity now. It also
is a black metallic and not a solid black (like my 84).
