I recently has a similar problem on the jetta 8v, the idle control valve
stopped working so I replaced it, THEN I found the problem, the wires into the ICV
were cracked right in the connector, fixed the wires and idle controlled. The
fuel pump noise is sometimes an indicator it's going to puke, but I' ve
driven for years with them being noisy too.Michael
