Ouch.  If he didn't take your deposit, he already was having
second thoughts about selling. You should have had the cash
in your pocket, to make it tougher for him to say "No." It
s*cks that he wasted your time, but there isn't much you can
do about it, except keep looking.  I wouldn't flame him; his
brother might back out, and you may get it still. Maybe if you
sweeten the deal... offer him $1100 and see if he changes
his mind again.
