Heater controls interchangeability...



True, when there is no vacuum, the outside flapper does open, I had
forgotten...  That arm is broken, so I have the sucker wedged closed...  As
for the valve that is closest to the driver (which is the one I think you
are talking about), I don't know...  All I know for sure (now) is that when
the warmth leaves my toes or hands, it is going to the dash vents...  I am
also assuming that the Scirocco and Rabbit will function exactly the same
way...

i havent been following this thread, but i've done a bunch of vacuum vent
work on the rieger, and i know that the defrost diverter does not default to
the defrost position. actually, there are 2 flappers that move, and neither
defaults to defrost. the air box flapper defaults to the center vent
position, and the outside raintray flapper defaults to external air (when
you go to defrost, this flapper closes to force internal recirc - this
occurs only in the defrost position).
