WOT (even out of this world): Burt Rutan on Discovery

I caught the tail end of that program too. Just amazing how he developed
the planes. Ford truck = wind tunnel.

I saw a 3hr(!) special last night and was totally mesmerized. Seeing his
achievements briefly in the news is one thing, but to see it
conceptualized and realized (albeit in documentary form) was truly
inspiring.

Hats off to the test pilots as well...to fly an experimental plane is
one thing, but to fly one that: 1)is going into the vacuum of space 2)is
neither wind tunnel tested nor crash tested 3)is DRIVE BY CABLE(!!!)
(Dagnabbit, this thing binds up after 760 mph, ya gotta fix that, Burt!)
and 4)looks like Flash Gordon's daily driver is quite another.

Not to mention they just slapped the equivalent of a scaled up model
rocket motor on the back.
