Where is the engine code??

The engine code is right below the no.3 sparkplug, on the flat tab, and it's
really difficult to see.

Instead of using a GTI head on a 3A, you might consider installing an Audi
3A long-block with the Audi intake, that has larger odd sized ports, the
injectors have hold-downs on them, and go into the intake, not the head, and
it already has the larger throttle body.

I just picked up a 99% rust-free Rabbit GTI and it came with a full 3A swap.


I'm very tempted to use it in my '81 S, but I can't justify taking apart
both cars to do so.

Ok so someone I know is selling what he claims is an
engine from an 85 GTI. For some time I have been
messing with the idea on my mind to give my car a
little more HP by switching the 1.7 on it to a little
bigger displacement. Hell I could just keep the head
and put it on a 3A If i ever find the right one.

Where do I find out on the engine if this is a JH
code?
He has given me the numbers from the side of the head
and those are not it rigth? 3ME that doesnt sound
right....
