MK3 tranny 020 are they stronger??



Yes some lower powered European VW's used a cable actuated clutch with the 02A/02J.
So you can round up "factory" parts and make the conversion a little easier.
Don't know if the factory every had a linkage shift for the 02A/J but I've seen pictures of people
that have converted them to linkage.
Actually, mounting the shifter box is pretty straightforward and the cable can be routed so the
shift knob is very close to the same position as the stock shift knob.
Don't know about shift quality of linkage 020 vs. cable 02J, but we're going to find out soon ;^)

Dan, I think that page is where I must have gathered some of the information but I remember reading
somewhere else where someone was able to get the parts to convert the 02 letter boxes to cable
clutch...

I guess by variant, yes, I meant that there were different ratios, etc...

BTW, that's a cool project!
