AC ...

First off (and this being my first REAL post in a while) Hello Collective!
 
AC:  I believe that my AC is stock.  I have no reason to believe otherwise and for that matter have no way of contacting the PO, SO....  mine is bad and I need to take care of it now that I am responsible for a couple of rug rats... er, kids.  I could, and HAVE, dealt with no AC for years on my own, but now that there's chillins involved, I can't, in good conscience, make them suffer like I have.  SO, what is the current PC way of making AC work properly and can it be done by me?  In other words, can it be done by someone who is happy doing a proper oil change without making a mistake or should I have it done by a mech. I trust?
