Transmission questions ...

Yes, the 02A/02Js are considered stronger trannys.

Mounting: Clutch setup isn't the only thing you need to worry about. The 02A/J trannys are much shorter, and don't have the proper provisions for either tranny mount like the 020 has. You will also need these:

You will have to mount the cable shift box to the underside of the car and modify/make some brackets for the exhaust tunnel so it bolts up. (the shifter box). However it fits well.

You will find this page invaluable as well...also includes part numbers to convert a 02A to cable clutch so you don't have to do the hydrolic stuff:

02A/J gear ratios:

Axels are the same BTW, 100mm drive flanges.

Good luck!

Oh, and PS, because the tranny is so much shorter, I would think the six speed conversions for 02A/Js would fit excellent in a A1...

Hey Guys...
I need a bit of help...
I'm getting ready to swap the old motor out with the new one.
Since I heard that O2O Transmissions are quite weak I though I'd swap
O2A in there. Complication wise, is there anything major that I have to
worry about???

1.-> Mounting brackets/points???

2.-> What Axles would I end up using??? Hybrid scirocco-passat axles???
I would end up using stage 2 or stage 3 axles anyway...but need to
know for sure.

EuroSpeed Ltd. in Toronto makes a bracket that will allow you to convert
from the old style Cable Clutch to the newer Hydraulic Clutch.

Does anyone know/have a chart about the gear ratios in the O2A
Transmissions???
I would like to pick out a nice a long geared transmission to work with.

LMK what your thoughts/experiences on this subject are.
Thanks.
