garret turbo

I think you need some more info.
Apparently, some Dodge turbos had a special compressor housing, which may or
may not work since I don't know what it looks like. The reason I mention it
is there isn't a lot of room back there under the intake manifold. So,
that's the first thing to check.
Second I think you need to know the inducer diameter. That will tell you the
compressor wheel trim so you know if it's big enough to flow enough air for
your engine. What you're looking for is a compressor housing inlet ID of
either 1.67 (50 trim) or 1.83 (60 trim). If it's smaller than 1.67 it's a 45
trim and probably not big enough for your engine. Don't bother getting the
compressor housing A/R cause that doesn't tell you anything. i.e. 45, 50 and
60 trim wheels all came with .42 housing A/Rs.
The .48 turbine housing should be good. My nephew is running a .63 housing
and his engine is a little laggy.
$285 sounds like a good price for a rebuilt unused turbo. Check for any
radial shaft play, any scoring on the inside of the turbine and compressor
housings and cracks on the wastegate outlet of the turbine housing.
A T3 on a JH is a really cool combination cause you can make a lot of power
with an interally stock engine (cheap!).
I know my nephew's engine is nothing like Josh's 20V, but it's still a
hellava lot of fun to drive.
Peter Tong and Stephen Webb are some really knowledgeable guys on Vortex in
the FI forum about FI with CIS.
Check out http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/list/D_Bubb/JH_turbo/ for some pictures
of the setup my nephew and I put together.
