On early cars without the always circulating overflow tank the best way
would be to first fill the block from the upper Rad hose, reconnect it
and fill the Rad the rest of the way.

There will still be (most likely) some bubbles in there and you will
want to run the car with the Heater on Full (fan not needed, just crank
the Thermostat over to get coolant flowing through the hater core).

Once the motor gets warm & the thermo opens, coolant flows, the radiator
fan should come on and then shut it down and let it cool.

Top off the Rad, and run it like normal- recheck the coolant level the
next morning.
