(ot) car length poll

Brett,

My answer will come with a little bit of experience added to it. I can tell
you that production cars do NOT run longer than 20'. How do I know? I am a
Real Estate Appraiser. I measure houses all day, everyday. The minimum
length for a garage is..... drum roll.... 19.5' or 19' 6". Most garages are
built to the 20' mark to allow clearance. This is not to say that some
garages are larger as I have seen some that you can park stretch limos six
side by side (only twice though.)

IF you are wondering about stopping distance from the car in front of you, I
agree with Robert Piwonka on the time estimate method. I have always used
this as a better judge for stopping distance than trying to visualize how
many cars can fit between me and the guy in front of me (I usually start
dreaming of what the Sciroccos and GTIs would look like that should be
there.)
