hot engine pinging



Well, the engine won't ping when it's cold because the combustion chamber is
cold plus the mixture is probably richer.
Sounds like you ignition is too advanced.
If it's the stock mechanical/vacuum advance then there isn't much point
advancing it beyond the factory 6 deg BTDC.
Check that first.
