how to repair banged up underbodies

fellow listers,
my guess is that the rieger has seen a fairly large share of shops in
its life. the result is that the front underbody/floorpans have taken a
severe beating. the bottom rails of the rocker panels are completely flat
from where unknowing shops have tried lifting it (undoubetly from the wrong
places). i guess they seem to think its ok to lift a fwd car from the center
of the doors. the floor pans are a bit caved in as well (from where shops
missed the rockers), and the 2 main beams that extend rearward along the
floorpan have kinks in the center and bow upwards at their centers.
i'm shocked the rieger feels as solid as it does with all of this
bending going on down there. it doesnt torque steer at all or anything of
the like. also, despite the bending, the undercoating seems to have held
well enough to not let anything rust.
is there some way this can all be fixed? im trying to find some medium
solution. something better than removing carpet/attacking with sledge, but
not as major as bringing to body shop and spending insane $$ to fix.
i wonder if i can fabricate a mini hydraulic puller on a u-bar that
could straddle the good parts of the frame while i pull the bent parts
downward.
feel free to throw some ideas in my direction. once the twin is done,
the riegers floor is getting straightened and better/lower jack points will
be installed as well (not sure of the best route there either).
thanks in advance for suggestions
Al
