Al said,
"1. rotate the crank such that the piston of the cylinder you are =
threading
is at top dead center.
2. metal shavings (especially oily ones) stick to q-tips like velcro. =
tape a
couple to either ends of a straw and swipe the hole/piston face, =
rotating
the straw. do this occasionally to clean up the metal bits.
hth, and good luck."

I agree but would add;

3. That you should coat the tap with liberal amounts of wheel bearing =
grease and change it often.

4. Use a lot of air while you are doing Al's cleaning method.

It's worked for me on air cooled heads where removing it is not nearly =
as easy.

My number 2 spark plug hole is messed up. I need to put new spark =
plugs in my 16v and I have to redo the spark plug hole. Anyone know =
how I can do it with the head on the car? Every 14mm retapper that I =
have found uses a 3/4" socket. I have yet to find a 3/4 socket that will =
a wall thin enough to fit down the shaft. Where are the retap/helicoil =
kits made to fit our engines?
