[tech] power steering trouble-shooting

Are you saying the power steering pump is making that "whiizzz" sound? When
you changed the fluid did you change the filter in the bottom of the bowl?

bottom plate comes out:

Ta.da!! filter that needs changing:

unless the pump you replaced your old one with is a "used" one, then maybe
it is bad as well...the noise you hearing is the bearing.

=> probably simple, actually, but i'm not figuring it out. i
=>replaced the power steering pump about two months ago and now
=>it's making noise. very possible that it IS bad, but being this
=>new i'm looking to make sure. the rack does have power to it, so
=>that's not a problem, and it doesn't appear to be leaking
=>anywhere. i replaced the fluid in the system with the vw
=>hydraulic fluid (recommended by vw and about as cheap at work)
=>and didn't have any problem with it. just wondering if anyone has
=>experienced power their rack, but it was actually the culprit. i
=>plan on replacing the pump soon but would prefer no to have to do
=>it again. any insight would be helpful. thanx.
