I finally fouund them, 1977 MKI Scirocco pics

Same thing with my long gone '75 Rabbit

On my first Rabbit, a '77, there was a bracket under the door skin where
the mirror would attach if the holes were drilled exactly right(dealer must
have had that info-never seen it in a manual).  Maybe some of the older
Rocs have this too?
