Ehaust smell in cabin under hard exceleration

I've been noticing as of late that when I really get on the rocco hard
that I get a carbon/exhaust smell in the cabin (windows up or down). 
The car isn't loud like there is an exhaust leak anywhere though I guess
maybe a small leak would be heard over the normal sound of a 16v?  So
what could I be looking at.  All the exhaust is factory OEM (yes I know,
shame on me) but I'm just curious if maybe I'm looking at a cracked
header or downpipe.  I have looked, but wasn't able to see anything.
