Way back in 1978 I raced a 1977 Scirocco in SSB the oil temp needle would go off the hi end of the gage, past 150c, in about 10 laps on a hot day. After about 5 races I had the oil tested and it showed no problems. That engine was raced for 2 years in every race in Southern Pacific area and the national runoffs and lasted over 150,000 miles.
