be careful about the FO numbers, they are from ETKA and havent been =
verified first hand. Ron and myself have found that the FF numbers from =
ETKA are incorrect, so FO may be slightly different as well.

Thanks for the ratios, I thought I looked on .org before, but maybe =
not. I have a 4K also, but was looking for lower highway rpm's. This =
gearbox may just work out.

You can get gear charts in the "gear" section of Scirocco.org- the =
FO ratios are 3.89 final drive, with 3.45, 1.94, 1.29, 0.91, and =
0.71(first through 5th gear respectively). The 4K and 2H are ratioed =
much closer, 5th gear in the 2H is equivalent to 4th gear in the =
FO(0.91)! I have a 2H, I still get 30+ mpg highway(it's 4000rpm @ 75mph =
for a reference point). In case you didn't know, almost any 4-cyl =
watercooled VW tranny will fit in any watercooled VW 4cyl VW, you do =
have to convert to a cable shifter for many of the mid-late 90's ones =
though. HTH,=20

The FO is in the '79 now, but I don't know the ratios or how it =
performs. I bought the car as-is, and haven't had any real road time =
with it. Thanks, jeff

I have heard only good things about Eastwood. Also, why do you =
want an FO tranny? For performance you should almost definately go with =
a 4K or 2H. HTH,=20

Thanks for all the responses, and no new info on the seat =
situation.

I was thinking of powder coating the calipers, but as I =
understand you would
need to rebuild the calipers afterwards. I have never rebuilt =
calipers, and
don't know about kits and part sources. It wouldn't hurt to =
build them
anyway, for longevity. I did see some nifty stuff here for the =
rotors, and
          they also have caliper paints.

I didn't want to rattle can the calipers, as I plan on keeping =
this car for
a very long time. And the FLAPS rattle cans say "for best =
results heat to
          400* for x hours".

The squareness issue is just that, ABA vs 3A. I want to build =
a motor, and
was wondering about weight between the two blocks, as weight =
and F/R balance
is a major issue for me, and what real world differences do =
the stroke vs
bore issues make. I will be building from scratch, so =
everything is a
          consideration, and ideas are welcome.

A new issue is exhaust size, I want to upgrade the current =
stock size,1.6
engine, but don't want to lose too much bottom end. I also =
want to be
prepared for the upcoming larger engine size. I thought about =
2.25 with a
more restrictive muffler, for the 1.6. Later with the new =
engine, install
new muffler, then only eating the muffler cost and not two =
exhausts.

I have looked for this tranny code, with no luck, anyone =
enlighten me? "FO
          20029"

          Thanks for the time Jeff
