Late Cluster in an 82?

I am about to do this. My car is an '83, but it has the early style connectors like yours(a big one and a little one with a single wire). I got a cluster and harness out of an '85 GTI, with MFA. Though I have done no actual work on the car, I have spent hours mapping out the wiring (through using limited wiring diagrams, translating german, and just following wires by hand). The main reason I have had to do so much mapping is due to the MFA, if you're putting in a non-MFA later cluster it should be easy. I can give you the info on which wires are which on your '82, but the info I have obtained about my '85 cluster may be useless to you depending on what year and model of car you are getting your cluster out of. HTH, if you want the info just ask-

Anyone put a late MK2 cluster in an 82 before?
I noticed that with the old-style cylinder fuse
box there were different connecters to the 85mph
cluster than in the later model 120mph ones.

Any info on converting or splicing?

Thanks,
Jason Rinne
