Turning Rocc into an Azteca :o)

Thats right Drew, It would look stock unless you were looking at it closely
seeing as It would need at least two latches on the outside. As for
structural stuff, I'm still trying to figure this out. The whole comparison
with the convertable mods doesn't work for me because there you completely
remove part of the car, here the "tailgate" could be dropped down but
everything would still be there and just be clamped into place. I'm just
trying to get opinions on wether or not this area really contributes to the
structure seeing as in a truck situation this doesn't make it so the truck
bed twists. Of course a truck bed isn't exactly part of the body, it more
just sits on the truck (though I don't know if rabbit pickups are like
this?).

Oh, by the way, I am not joking but not completly serious. This is
something I would like to pursue but may do so with my rabbit, but overall
it was a "hey lets gut this but at the same time a tailgate would be cool
for easy loading of bikes!" kind of thing. (and no dave, Im not buying a
rabbit pickup, they are ugly) Frankly, I feel the complete rear of the
scirocco is terribly designed and useless. At the very least I feel like
gutting the back because the speaker mount area makes the trunk too narrow
for anything and the rear seats don't fold all the way down, also seeing as
they practically touch the front seats they aren't useful for passengers.

I'll make a sketch to show you what I'm envisioning, if such brilliance can
be captured on paper :oP

If I understand Tyler correctly, then I think you have his idea wrong. I
think what he's doing will look like a stock rocco body-wise, but with the
hatch open, the panel with the lights/license plate would fold down. Is
this the right idea?
