The answer is in your question. 
All I know is, the 3 motors I built with total seal rings, 2 of them were
assembled dry and they worked fine. The first one that I built, I did the
old lube up the cyl walls trick and the rings never seated. Low
compression ect. The bottom line is, they must be assembled dry for then
to seat properly. Im told by one of the former owners that this is the
main reason Velocity stopped using them. (Cant believe im siding with
Christopher on this one. damn...)
