aluminum also has better heat dissapsion properties then iron.

  I knew weight was the reason, I just wasn't sure on the expansion thing. I
wouldn't put it past auto makers to make a lighter, more efficient engine
that wore out a lot quicker due to expansion and contraction, hence the
question.

for aluminum. Aluminum blocks are becoming more popular for one reason;
weight.

      Speaking of engine metal, why are most engines aluminum now? Doesn't
aluminum expand and contract a lot under heat/cold? Wouldn't that really
stress out parts and stuff?
