slow rocco problem

hey everyone, was lookin for some input on possible reasons for my rocco 
burnin too much gas. it is a 82 with a 1.6l and it idles really high too. i 
did the timing belt too and adjust the timing but still nothing changes.(the 
belt was worn,i knew it woouldn't change anything)
i think i may have f-ed up the timing marks though cause the car used too go 
like hell and now it only kinda goes like hell. im gone get the idle 
adjusted tomorow and double check the timing belt. any ideas would be 
greatly appreciated
