Cars with Fuel Injection rarely if ever get vapor lock (it's a carb
thing) but you can get 'Hard to Start When Hot' conditions. It might
be a misadjusted fuel to air ratio, a bad accumulator (connected to
the pump mech.), or any number of things including poor electrical
grounds or bad when hot relays.

VW had come out with a hot start kit that provided more power to the
coil, uh starter solenoid but this wasn't an A1 thing really.

Lastly before I jet- early VW Automatics often won't start when hot
because the starter is on the back end of the motor and gets real hot
from the down pipe/ exhaust.
