Using an oil pump intended for the hydraulic engines in a solid lifter =
engine will give you really high oil pressure. The hydraulic lifters =
apparently use alot of oil!
I, unfortuneately, have an ABA short block with the big oil pump and a =
solid lifter head. I run 5W-30 and after startup (not a particularly =
cold day) will see over 100 psi @ 3000 RPM. After it's warm the =
pressures are semi-reasonable.
I think the pressures are just to damn high!

I need a new oil pump and am about to order one from potterman, but I =
would like to upgrade to the 36mm oil pump, however the description on =
www.parts4vws.com states: "OE VW Pump. Fits All 2.0 8v Hydraulic Motors. =
Also an Upgrade for 1.8 8v Hydraulic motors" What? Why do hydraulic =
motors have different oil pumps? Could I still use this pump, would it =
be good/bad? Thanks-

  Rob
