According to Greg Raven:
VW G grind
Checking Height: 1 mm
Lift- Intake: .423
Exhaust: .423
Duration- Intake: 235
Exhaust: 234

The checking height has to be equal to make a fair comparison. Raven's =
book lists different checking heights for different manufacturers, so =
the numbers aren't good enough for a direct comparison. I think =
experience with different cams is the best way to tell. HTH
Jeff

You should be able to pick up a used G grind for about $50. I hear =
that a
1.6 liter cam is somewhere between the stock and G grind.

anything
outrageous and am not adverse to buying a used cam. the only problem =
i've
run into is that most of the 8v cams i've seen are for hydraulic =
lifters or
are way over priced. any ideas on where to find a good cam for good =
money
for a solid lifter head? thanx.
