Patrick, the cam of the head of an Audi 3A motor is a hydraulic cam. I
do
not have the specs, but, I do happen to have one lying around.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1875234941

So for the sake of science, I went down in the basement, and measured
it.
Base circle is 34 mm, and lift is 43.91mm. Roughly 10 mm of lift, or
0.393"
which is just the same specs as measured on my stock hydraulic '88
Scirocco.
No gain to be had there.

More info on hydraulic camshafts:
http://cabrios.20m.com/tuning/camshaft.htm

Also requested for Robbie, unfortunately, Raven's book does not list
specs
for a VW stock JH grind.

Cheers.
