Speaking of steel

I tore out my interior this past wknd to find that the edges of the floor 
pans rotted out next to where the seats go.

My buddy who used to be a mechanic said that .06" was plenty and anything 
over that is over doing it. I was thinking maybe going .125".

What would you all recommend? BTW I will not be doing this my help I will 
have the assistance of a very excellent welder at hand.
