Koni Sport Adj install on MK1

There rear shocks have a slightly larger diameter shaft and so the top
spring "hat" as well as that 1.5" collar or spacer that goes between the top
nut and the top spring "hat" do not fit.  I drilled out the top "hat" but
now I must apparently do the same to this spacer/collar.  Should I have
gooten a new one that fits the Koni.  Or should I customize the old one.
BTW I have the MK1 rears as well as 16v rears to compare and they have
interchangeble parts in this area.
I explained to the Potters what my application was and their reccomendation
was exactly what I had decided on anyway so mot much chance of a mix-up
there.  Others with Konis had to have had a similar situation.
Anyone?
