SOT-in my mail-recall notice

First of all contact your dealer and ask them for your records noting this particular problem. The contact VWOA directly with information in hand (I bet when you reported it initally you were in range), and discuss calmly and rationally why you should be remibursed. Citing all the service records, be a polite persistent bitch (forgive) and they will come around to a point. You may or may not get it all back but you can sure as hell try.

Okay, so backing up the horse, I've had some power issues with the TDi for
some time. Finally, about three weeks ago, somene "officially" dignosed it
as a bad MAF sensor, which I've been suggesting for over a year. But I
wasn't about to toss a $500 part at it just in case (yes, a genuine TDI MAF
IS that much here), and various techs had said the MAF was fine. And it
wasn't, the car is great now. I got an "aftermarket" MAF, but it was still
expensive enough.

So what arrives on my doorstep today? A recall notice for the MAF sensor.
Good for 7 years, or 115,000 kms (70,000 miles) So this is total bullshit
(pardon my French). Why in the hell would anyone drive a TDI since 99 and
have only 70.000 miles on it? You buy a TDI because you drive a lot. So I
miss out, mine has 170.000 kms on it. And I'd be willing to bet that most
TDI owners also miss out. I also had the main power relay fail on this car,
and that was a well known bad part that is dangerous when it fails (your car
just quits, no warning). It's not recall item yet at all.

Anyway, I'd like to be reimbursed for this, any tips on strategies that
work? I cannot tell you how much this pisses me off. And I bet I could drive
into any dealer with the bad MAF, and they'd tell me it was fine so it
didn't need to be replaced on the warrantee.

Thanks for your collective whining skills eh? It would sure be nice to get
that part paid for by VWOA.

cathy
