Are the wires going to the resistor getting power when the fan switch is on? (test at the resistor).

Hey everybody, for ythe first time I have a problem with my 81 Scirocco
and can't solve it. I lost my heating/defrost fan here a day or two ago
and can't figure it out. I have power to the fan switch, and I have
power to the leads from the fan switch, the ground is good, but no fan.
I can jumper between the battery + to the fan power post and the fan
runs fine. If its a gound issue, were on God's green earth could it
be. The only ground the fan has is fine or it wouldn't run when I
jumper the positive lead only. Being that it is cold and moist here in
the NW a defrost fan is a must!! Someone please give me some ideas of
what I could check next. As far as I can tell there is no relay
anywhere in the system for the fan, only the Resistor on the fron of the
fan, but the highest setting on the fan switch bypasses the resistor, so
it shouldn't be the problem. I DON'T KNOW, BUT I AM GOING INSANE!!!!!!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
PS Yes I tried a different fan motor.
