Rocco rambling, delete if you like

Since the list is slow, heck , I may as well post this blither.

First, I'm seeking a name for my new garage. We already have "the garage",
and "the pole barn", so those names are out. This one will be for the
Roccos, so I'd thought of "the Rocco Roost", but suggestions are welcome. My
Dad's suggestion of "Building number four" doesn't cut it, so what does one
call the habitation of a group of Roccos?

Second, anyone have input on that snake logo yet?

Third, and this is very Rocco related. You see, I haven't had any major
repair related incidents since I've been nailing up siding instead. But
yesterday was "the Northern VW Nationals" at the beautiful track in Grand
Bend. If you can plan to go next year, you should. They have a show too, and
it's cheap and fun, and you can camp for free. Anyway, I figured the 1/8th
mile wouldn't do Klaus any harm, and Denny of course was going to drive the
headache. So we have the tent, sleeping bags, slicks, all that crap in the
cars, and I fire up Klaus, he fires up as soon as he has some fuel, and I
relocate him down the driveway. What a good little car, I've been driving
him around all week on various short errands. Well, somebody on the other
side of the garage had noticed this apparently. You got it, the jealous
silver one...
Anyway, Denny goes to fire up the 16V. Nothing, notta. (She knows I hate a
car that won't start) Well, I figured I'd outsmarted her this time, since I
had a brand new Wallymart battery to swap for hers anyway (she currently has
a monster 725CCA diesel version, which would be better used in the Jetta
anyways) , but I hadn't gotten around to doing it. I figured it would be
flat from sitting, but nope, 12.7 volts or so, perfect! Out with the monster
dead diesel battery, in with the new smaller one. What could be easier?
Well, this is a part for the headache, so you know it will be
WRONG...terminals on the wrong sides. Grrrr. tried to mount in in the other
way, but of course the cables have been perfectly tweaked so they just won't
go the extra few inches. Back in with the monster, and to plan "B". Klaus of
course is gently purring in the driveway, waiting for all this nonsense with
the younger sister.

Out come the booster cables, tried to jump her off Klaus, but still no
enthusiasm for starting. So next up was the Cruiser, and eventually she
jumped to life, right after Denny said "That's it, we're not going". Turns
out that during all the battery manipulations I'd knocked the cold start
connector off, this may have contributed to the foolishness.

No issues after that, she just wanted to get my attention. This is a mean
spirited car sometimes, but I just expect it. And she knows I love her
anyways. And as for what drained the battery? I think the glovebox light
switch was left on.

SO we had a good day, I saw WAY more internals of air coolers than I care to
think of (they were breaking, like REALLY breaking, cylinder walls,
gearboxes...ugly stuff). We ran too fast, both of us. Klaus found an extra
.3 seconds of speed in the eliminations (11.6 in the 1/8th on an 11.9 dial,
9.7 for the headache) , the air was cool and there was as strong tailwind.
But Klaus seems to like the track, I don't beat him too hard, don't worry.
Not the headache, but she seems to thrive on it, so she gets beaten on.
She's still doing 2.0s 60' times, you just can't complain about that. (and
knock wood, this clutch is holding!) But we were the only Roccs there. And
it was great drivng weather, the drive there and back was fun.

That's it, I had the (painful, in my head type) headache today or we'd be
out stomping Hondas, and the newbug would be ticking off folks in the Power
class. But there will be more races. And no doubt more bad behavior from
certain silver cars.
