I have a Scirocco (Mk1) version and one for a Rabbit rear hatch as well. 

They attach via a strip that runs under the window seal, and hinges
along the top.

No paint rubbing on this version, I haven't committed to installing it
yet because I'd think it would conflict with the rear lip spoiler.

Still, I got one, I got one.  :P
