2.0L ENGINE PRICING

Well considering that I found a long block for $150, $550 is way to much in my book.

Ok, I have sat in my Scirocco several times this weekend dreaming about the
2.0L that was in Allyn's Reiger. I have called all the salvage yards in my
area looking for a block. I found three motors in the area at two different
places. The one was outrageous at $900, But a guy up the street has two
that he will let go for $550. keep in mind that both prices are for the
long block with out all accessories. No brainer as to which is the better
deal, but is this high for a 2.0L? Unfortunately it is out of my budget at
the moment, but could manage that in a short while. I know that some of you
have lucked into great deals by picking up a donor car for close to nothing.
Any tips on where to find a deal or try to bring the cost down a bit?

TIA
