vibration/shudder at 70 - possible alternatives (other than wheel balance?)

well that is a possibility and could be common to all 16 year old cars...

I am about to swap trannies in my car for a completely rebuilt with botl kit
and 80% LSD in it, Ill let you know.

  Big shot in the dark here, but perhaps this vibration has something to do
with the differential?  Specifically I'm thinking the differential bearings,
mine are going bad and thus my driveflanges have some play in them.

    - jacked up front right and spun it (via engine). the wheel seems to be
straight as it spins, but the tire seems like it may be slightly out of
round. i'll have to check this out some more later.

      I gotta' chime in here fellas;  I've been driving cars for a lot of
years and learned that a harmonic vibration most likely is NOT a wheel
imbalance.
       I'd lean towards CV joint or engine imbalance (I've had both of these
situations result in harmonics)

        try getting a mounted balance--the wheels are balanced on the car,
so it
        essentially balances all that rotating mass (rotors, hubs, etc). my
shop
        does it for $8 wheel. i had the wheels/tires balanced unmounted
first, then
        mounted; i was amazed how much tweaking needed to be done with the
mounted
        balance.  the car is lowered, and is rock solid as fast as i care to
go...
