[[tech] buying new battery.. recomendations?]

I've been running a Hawker Odyssey for about 8 months with my ABA/JH 2L NA
engine.
It only has about 470 CCA and got through the winter without even a hint of
weak cranking. It's a dry cell battery and the engine always starts up
pretty quickly, so not sure how that would relate to the CCA for a lead-acid
battery. Would seem to indicate you don't need a really huge battery.
I'm only using this relatively small battery to make room for the water-air
intercooler.

As far as minimum cold cranking amps, I haven't heard much reply to my
previous post. I do know for sure that 870 is more than enough, mine's a
725CCA diesel one and it's also likely overkill (and I think it is in the
death throes, along with about three others around here).

The Redtop has more CCA than the Yellowtop if you're going that route, but
the
yellow supposedly takes more abuse, and is more money. (I know there was
some
discussion about how deep they need to be cycled? Somebodsy else can chime
in
on that) They both seem heavy as hell. Check around, there is a stereo
store
around here that sells Redtop cosmetic blems, maybe you can find similar,
they'll turn up at the stereo places 'cause the big systems drain batteries
I
guess. They were still 200 Cdn though. I'm likely going the Wallymart route.
Both the Optimas (obviously) and the Walmart ones got good reviews when the
topic came up on the VWOT list.(Heck, I went the other way than you with the
80, it now has the (lawn) tractor battery in it. It's be sweet if it was big
enough to work long term, it weighs like two pounds)

I'd lke to know what the smallest is that you can get away with.
